Retraining

Once the horses have had the chance to rehab from injuries, enjoy some time off just being horses and we’ve gotten to know their personalities, we begin retraining them.

Our main intention in the training program is to cultivate healthy relationship between horse and human. Many of these horses have been asked a lot of as racehorses, but have never been asked to truly connect and harmonize with a rider. We create space for their natural expression, while developing clear boundaries to emphasize safety and encourage self-regulation.

Using ‘natural’ horsemanship techniques, we use a lot of groundwork to provide a good foundation— this helps us define vocabulary for further conversation. We restart the horses under saddle using the principals of classical dressage, emphasizing balance and gymnastics to help prepare them to go forward in any discipline.
